The Future is Just a Second Away

Why is making the “right choice” so hard to do? Part of the reason is that the results of the “right choice” are rarely immediately realized. When you choose to have steamed vegetables instead of french fries, you don’t immediately get 6-pack abs or lower blood pressure. It takes weeks, months, even years of making the right choice to see the results of those decisions.

The “wrong choice” however, provides immediate “positive” results in the form of tasty food or a slight buzz. The negative results don’t show up until at least the next morning when you wake up a little hung over. Often the negative results don’t appear until weeks or months later as added weight gain and overall poorer health.

Much like “Future Homer” we spend too much time living in the here and now and not considering the future impact of our choices. The next time you are faced with a decision, pause and consider the future implications of the choice you are about to make. Then remember, the future is literally just a second away.
