The Power Of Your Beliefs

The following post was written and posted on social media by a friend and fellow coach, Jim Vance. Jim is a former professional triathlete and now coach of other professional athletes. While his post talks about athletic performance, I believe what he says translates to nearly every aspect of life. Your belief system strongly dictates your success or failure. We all have the ability to succeed in nearly any situation, whether or not we do, is largely predicated by mindset. As Henry Ford once famously said, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right.”

“The power of a belief system within the mind of the athlete, is both their greatest weapon, and potentially their greatest adversary. I’ve seen many athletes overachieve and under achieve simply based on their belief system. 90% of the race result is determined simply by what the athlete is thinking on the start line. Do they believe they are prepared? No athlete will ever be without weakness, but do they truly believe they can overcome their weaknesses? The answer to that question is found when the race starts.” – Jim Vance
