Occupation: Head Coach at Kitsap CrossFit
First CrossFit WOD (aside from Baseline & Fundamentals): My first WOD involved a bunch of pistol squats, handstand pushups, and pull-ups.
First thought after First CrossFit WOD: I’ve never done a squat on one leg before. I’ve never done a push-up upside down before. And I’ve never gotten to the point of needing assistance for pull-ups until today. Something tells me I should keep coming back!
Before CrossFit I did: Been very physically active most of my life. Spent a majority of my years involved with martial arts with my main focus on boxing, Muay Thai, and different forms of grappling. Spent some time doing the “normal” gym routine of lifting and cardio, but wasn’t really my thing. Got really into kettle bells right before I found CF.
Favorite CrossFit exercise: Muscle-ups
Least favorite CrossFit exercise: Snatch
I love Kitsap CrossFit because: The PEOPLE. Hands down, that’s the reason why I’ve made the 15-20 drive for the last 3 years. I pass by numerous gyms that I could workout at on my way to Poulsbo. But it’s the people of KCF that keep me coming. Their efforts day in and day out inspire me like no other. They’ve been there to support me when I’ve been down and have cheered me on when I’ve been up. There’s nothing I’ve ever experienced quite like the KCF community. They’re more than just some people in a gym I work out with…….they are my family.
Most surprising accomplishment: Being able to deadlift 400lbs. Before I started CrossFit my one rep max was 225, a lift I hurt my back on and had stayed away from ever since. Deadlifts scared me. But through coaching on proper form and a little bit of work, it’s now become my favorite lift.
Short Term Goals: Sub-3 minute “Fran” time. I’m really close!
Long Term Goals: 3x bodyweight deadlift. Not quite so close, another 50lbs to go.
Hobbies: Anything outdoors, but especially hiking! Something about being out on a trail that is very relaxing to me. Also love sports, music, and movies as well.
Favorite food: I don’t think I have enough room for this topic. I’m like a garbage disposal, I’ll eat anything. For the most part, I love to eat healthy and my training benefits from it. However, my FAVORITE foods are pretty much anything considered “not good for you all the time.” Pizza, cookies, doughnuts, and last but not least……..ICE CREAM!
Freestyle: (share something interesting we haven’t covered) I like to write. Something about putting words together to convey your thoughts is enjoyable to me. More specifically, I like writing lyrics or I guess maybe you could call it poetry. I don’t do it all that often, but will break out some clever words if I’m feeling inspired. At one point in my youth, I thought I could rap but realistically was pretty horrible.
