What’s Your Story: Cameron Peters

Why did you join Kitsap CrossFit?
I joined KC because I was over 40 and out of shape and finally didn’t want to be that way anymore. Specifically, I wanted to be healthier for my wife and kids. My good friends the Elliott’s had been going to KCF for several years and encouraged me to start and so I finally gave it a shot. Best decision I’ve made in a long time.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?
For me, completing “Jerry” in my 4th week was a big accomplishment. I hate running and hadn’t run more than a mile in one sitting in years. So, a 2-mile run and 1k row was a big deal for me. Finishing that helped me realize I could complete any wod. (I still hate running.)

What are you working on now?
I’m mostly working on just the mental side of the work. There are still certain exercises that my brain rebels against (running, burpees) and when I see them on the schedule, I have to really force myself to show up knowing it’s going to suck. I don’t always win that fight, but I’ve improved a lot over the last 6 months, and feel much more confident than I did at the beginning.

What is your favorite KCF memory?
So far, my favorite memory is participating in the CrossFit Open. I was only about 5 weeks in and the thought of a competition didn’t really appeal to me, but Mike encouraged me to register so I gave it a shot. I enjoyed the experience and it helped me gain a sense of the community that Kitsap CrossFit has.

What motivates you to continue training at KCF?
My motivation to continue are my wife, the health gains I’ve made, and the fact that I’m modeling a healthy behavior for my kids. They since have begun attending the Kids CrossFit class and are really enjoying it.
