The New Fast Food: Grocery Stores

When you are on the go, getting healthy food in a hurry seems like a daunting task. The reality is that it’s actually quite simple.

Typically, when we think fast food, we think McDonalds or Burger King. Perhaps if you are more health conscious you think Subway or perhaps Chipotle. Have you ever thought Safeway or Central Market?

The idea that a chain restaurant with a drive-thru is a faster option than going to a grocery store is actually incorrect. If you go to a drive-thru at lunch time, there is a high likelihood that there will be a fairly long line and it can take upwards of 10+ minutes to place your order and get your food. On top of that, you have to navigate their menu to find something that might actually be healthy.

A quick trip to a grocery store can be much quicker and certainly healthier. How long would it take you to find a parking spot, zip in and grab a bag of baby carrots, an apple, some deli meat and a small bag of almonds? If you use the self checkout line or express line, I’d argue that you could do that in less time than it takes to go through a drive-thru. You can get through even faster if you just grab a pre-made salad which almost every single grocery store in the world now carries.

The excuse that you don’t have enough time to eat healthy on the run is just that. We have been brainwashed to think that the only quick food is chain restaurant food. Let’s flip the script and make grocery stores the new fast food.
