Dan’s Biography

Dan is a long-time endurance athlete who began training under the CrossFit methodology in January of 2008. His endurance accomplishments include 30+ triathlons/duathlons, 8 marathons, including Boston in 2008, and in May of 2009 he completed his first 50-mile ultramarathon. Dan received a B.S. in Exercise Science and completed an athletic training internship working with Division I collegiate athletes at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2001 he earned his Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the U.S. Army-Baylor University Graduate PT program. Dan spent 8 years as an active duty Navy PT. His Navy career culminated in a 2 year assignment to the USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN-74) followed by being hand picked as the first Navy PT assigned to the newly formed Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC). Dan is the Program Director at Kitsap CrossFit as well as a member of the CrossFit HQ Seminar Staff as a Head Trainer. Dan’s coaching style relies heavily on his extensive education and experience. He has a keen eye for proper technique and a knack for teaching complex movements in a simplified manner. He applies his knowledge of human anatomy and biomechanics to the development of safe and effective CrossFit programming that is as fun as it is challenging.

Occupation: KCF Owner, Physical Therapist, CF Seminar Staff, Founder of Anatomy of an Athlete.

First CrossFit WOD (aside from Baseline & Fundamentals): Running Fight Gone Bad – run 800m after each round of FGB. It was as bad as it sounds.

First thought after First CrossFit WOD: “My lungs are bleeding!”

Before CrossFit I did: Endurance sports, mostly triathlons, but lots of running and cycling also

Favorite CrossFit exercise: Snatch

Least favorite CrossFit exercise: Air Bike, heavy shoulder to overhead and bumper plate runs.

I love Kitsap CrossFit because: One word – Community

Most surprising accomplishment: Doing 300 air squats 2 days after running the best marathon of my life. That was my CrossFit a-ha moment.

Short Term Goals: 100Kg Snatch and sub-11 hour Ironman distance triathlon

Long Term Goals: Qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona

Hobbies: All things food, my family, travel

Favorite food: Korean food, steak, sushi, Thai food, ice cream, bacon, brisket, duck, Mexican food … I could go on all night

Freestyle: (share something interesting we haven’t covered) After nearly 19 years in the military, I feared that by leaving the service and starting my own business I might lose the sense of community and camaraderie that is inherent in the military. Nothing could be further from the truth. The CrossFit community (not just here at Kitsap CrossFit) is so amazing. I have had the opportunity to travel to affiliates around the world and it is the same thing everywhere I go. Even if we don’t speak the same language, we all speak the language of CrossFit. I love my CrossFit people, here at KCF and around the globe.

The ultimate resources for health and fitness in Kitsap County. We foster a thriving community that enthusiastically supports each other's health and fitness goals.
